Are you bitter?

Are you bitter about YOUR ILLNESS?

It is not fair!

Do you think that right now, somewhere in the world, someone is thinking “This is not fair”?

Certainly.

It is not even possible to comprehend how much suffering there is in the world. Now. And before. And other places.

Still, you being devastaded about your condition is absolutely understandable and legit. When your life turned out completely different from what you wanted – or expected – you will feel sad. It is ok to be sad.

Is it ok to be bitter?

  • Why did this happen to me?
  • I didn’t deserve it!
  • I want to be healthy!

It is totally understandable to be bitter. But it does you no good. Actually, it just harms you even more.

Useful comparison

Man måsta jamføra!

This is a line from a Swedish movie, about a little boy who grows up under hard conditions in the late fifthies. He compares himself to Laika, the Russian dog sent into space, and conclude that things could be worse. His mantra is “You must compare”.

So, who are we really, to expect things to be perfect?

Since you are reading this, chances are high that you have access to a computer, or at least a smart phone. You have access to internet. I bet your feet are dry, and you can drink fresh water when you want.

I think we grew up in a time where we expect so much. We have access to so much, and we can see what other people have.   That makes us want more. Everything have the potential to get better. We raise our expectations, and by that, the potential to be disappointed.

It is all up to you

We learn that “it’s all up to you”. So, when something happens, like sickness, we get the need to control that as well.

  • Fix it!
  • Find a cure!
  • I want to be healthy!
  • What can I do myself? Eat better? Meditate? Exercise?

Sometimes it works, and that is fantastic.

But when you find yourself in a situation that you can’t control, and where there is no way to fix it. What to do?

Accepting, not giving up

You have two choices.

You can accept it, or you can fight.

Probably you will start fighting, but when do you resign? When do you accept? Does that mean you give up?

Not necessarily.

There is another strategy

If you accept your life as It is now, you can focus on making the best of it.

Parallell with this, you can keep on having your radar out to find a new potential solution.

But don’t let that ruin the good thing you have now, today.

Accepting means that you don’t get caught up in bitterness that destroys you. You find the small, valuable good things in your life. You change your focus, you tune your mind into what makes you happy. This is like puring honey, not poison, trough your body and mind.
